Flint, Mich. - Contruction to renovate Flint's historic Durant Hotel building is scheduled to begin Tuesday, October 28, transforming 250 former hotel rooms into 100 new residential apartments. A kick-off celebration will be held at 10 a.m., according to Daniel T. Kildee, the Genesee County Land Bank Chairman led the charge to create the public and private will to bring back the Durant and identified the financial support to make it happen.
 
Flint, MI – A growing number of Flint and Genesee County residents are transforming their neighborhoods, improving their health, and reducing their weekly grocery bill by growing food gardens in their yards and on vacant lots. These gardens are providing gardeners easy access to fresh, affordable, healthy, and chemical-free food. With more than 18,000 unoccupied residential properties in Flint alone, residents now have more opportunities than ever to turn available lots into productive food gardens.
 
Genesee County Land Bank was named one of three national finalists in the Fannie Mae Affordable Housing Innovations Award. The grand prize is $100,000. The land bank is one on the short list to receive a $100,000 Fannie Mae Foundation grants for innovations in government. Flint, MI — In a strategic partnership between Genesee County Land Bank and Salem Housing Community Development Corporation, a November 3rd Home Tour is planned. The Home Tour is scheduled from 2-5 pm and features eight newly renovated homes in Flint’s Metawanenee Hills neighborhood. A radio remote featuring live talent by WDZZ 92.7 is scheduled to take place from 2-4 pm.
 
Flint, MI —Genesee County Land Bank is offering a 30% discount to all police, fire, active duty or military veterans, and other public health and safety personnel. The discount would come as an incentive for public safety officers to live in Flint in the hopes that the presence of public service personnel would serve as additional protection in the Flint neighborhoods where the homes are located.
 
Genesee Land Bank is on of eighteen finalists for the prestigious Innovations in American Government Award. The Innovations in American Government Awards, founded in 1986, is a program of the Ash Institute for Democratic Governance and Innovation at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. The award is administered in partnership with the Council for Excellence in Government in Washington. More than 1,000 were submitted, there will be seven winners on a $100,000 prize.
 
FLINT, Mich - Plans are currently underway to transform the 24,000 square foot Berridge Hotel -- constructed in 1928 near downtown Flint -- into a 21-unnit condominium development. The $6.2-million Berridge Place Project will include a complete renovation of the former hotel's interior and restoration of its outside facade.
 
Home Tour This Weekend Features Neighborhood Revitalization Properties (date: 11/14/2011)

from noon to 2 p.m. The event is open to the public and takes place at three homes in northwest Flint
just south of Brownell Elementary and Holmes Middle School. The homes are at 2017, 2109 and 2114

Flint, MI — Three newly renovated homes will be featured in the upcoming Home Tour through the Genesee County Land Bank Saturday, August 18, 2012, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The homes featured are located at 2026 Winans Avenue, 2026 Maybury, and 1941 Burr. Tour homes offer a new kitchen, new bathroom(s), new appliances and security systems. Home Tour participants can walk through the featured homes and talk with the knowledgeable realtors about how home-ownership can become a reality for as little as $1,000 down. Participants will also have the opportunity to visit with residents of Flint south side neighborhoods, who’ve lived in homes purchased through the Genesee County Land Bank, at their annual reunion taking place during the same time.

Flint, MI — Prospective home buyers can visit newly listed properties in Flint’s historic Carriage Town neighborhood and the all-new Smith Village subdivision during a home tour this Saturday, April 21, 2012. The event is open to the public and takes place at homes in Carriage Town at 612 University Avenue, 818 Lyon and 426 West First Avenue. Homes on tour in the all-new Smith Village include 517, 521 and 557 Williams Street. Walk through these homes and talk with realtors about how home-ownership can become a reality, for as little as $1,000 down.
