The Land Bank supports innovative community groups and organizations in the cleaning, maintaining, and beautifying of otherwise vacant properties in Genesee County.
Clean & Green has been a program at the Land Bank since 2004. Through the program community groups seasonally maintain concentrated clusters of vacant lots held by the Land Bank. Each group maintains at least 25 lots every three weeks and receives a stipend of at least $3,000. Groups are selected to participate in the program through a competitive application process. The Clean & Green program is supported through grant funding. The application period for The Land Bank’s 2021 Clean & Green program is now open. Applications are on Friday, February 26, 2021 at 3:30 pm.
2020 Clean & Green Program Results
Land Bank’s Clean & Green partners:
- Maintained nearly than 3,700 vacant properties every three weeks in and around the city of Flint.
- Completed more than 22,000 vacant property “mowings”
- Engaged over 500 residents including 200 youth in improving their neighborhoods.
- Contributed to eliminating blight in and around Flint valued at more than $1.1 million
- Made neighborhoods safer - Clean & Green maintenance reduces crime according to research by the University of Michigan, Youth Violence Prevention Center. 30 percent fewer assaults than street segments with vacant, abandoned lots without community-engaged greening activities and 40 percent fewer violent crimes overall.

The Land Bank's mission is to restore value to the community by acquiring, developing and selling vacant and abandoned properties in cooperation with stakeholders who value responsible land ownership.
